Love the OT - Genesis 1-11

God's big story, the Bible, begins!

'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth".

And what a good creation it was! But so quickly humanity turned its back on this, and tried to live without God, the creator and loving sustainer of all.

How foolish this is!
God's curse came upon his people, sin entered the world, and death rose its hideous head.
And yet in the midst of such horror, God's mercy shines through, as he saves the righteous Noah, and paves the way to the most glorious and eternal saviour, Jesus. and because of Jesus' death and resurrection, God's promise of a restored, sinless, perfect, new creation is a reality.
Let us yearn for this, brothers and sisters, with praise and thanksgiving for Jesus Christ!!!

LOVE THE OT

This term we're getting familiar with the OT. This week we asked some questions:

Why is it important? Why aren't we as familiar with it? & What can help us read it?

Over the next 3 days we'll remind ourselves of the answers!

Why is important to read the Old Testament?

In the first year of being a Christian I was under the impression that it was only important to read the New Testament.  In my mind, now that Jesus was my Lord and Saviour, only the parts of the bible that had the "Jesus bits" were important.

Thankfully God taught me otherwise through a camp leader who showed me that, not only is the Old testament filled with stuff about Jesus but the WHOLE Old Testament is pointing to Jesus.

Jesus says this himself in Luke 24:44

"He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

When we look at the bible we see that it is divided into the Old and the New Testament.  Often it is tempting to think that the Old Testament was "Plan A" and when that didn't work out, God sent Jesus into the world as "Plan B".  But looking through both the Old and the New testament it is clear that Jesus is and always will be plan A for Gods big plan - to rescue His people back into a perfect relationship with Him.

If we want to understand Jesus better we need to be reading the Old testament.

The year flies by

Friends, can you believe it's already the end of Term 2?!?

I can't - how quickly the year is flying by.
This term we've enjoyed singing through the Psalms, we've ninja'd our way through the bible and listened to God's words to the Israelites through Haggai.

I'm really looking forward to next term.
Are you?

BORN TO... DIE

Christmas is coming...

Christmas is the time for celebration. Christmas is the time for tinsel, spending money, and well...................presents. They're all the rage. What's on your list?

What do you want for Christmas?

Tell you what I want for Christmas?

For people to see Jesus. For people to live for Jesus.

Now, I want to acknowledge up front that the 25th of December is not the actual date Jesus was born. We don't really know when it was. But we do know that there was a day in history a couple of thousand years ago that Jesus, who is God, was born. That Jesus, who is God, lived on earth. And so we celebrate once a year the birth of Jesus.

Why do we do it?

Well 'cause Jesus is a big deal. Jesus was born to die. Jesus, who is God, became human, so that he could die and pave the way for forgiveness and life eternal.

I find it astonishing that Jesus would die in my place, in your place.

My Christmas prayer is that this Christmas you will see through the tinsel and desire to spend ridiculous amounts of money on things that you don't really need and that you will see and love Jesus.

BORN TO...

Have you ever given much thought to what your purpose in life is?

Over these few weeks we’re looking at the lives of four different people and what they were born to do.

Last week we saw that John the Baptist was born to be wild… Not in the hairy, smelly, insect eating, camel haired, desert living feral way,

But standing as a rebel in his society – challenging the status quo.

He Recognised that he wasn’t a big deal – and John knew that ‘He must become greater; I must become less.’

Jesus is the one John pointed to.

Because Jesus is a big deal.

Jesus is the saviour.

Jesus is your saviour.

Have you recognised this?

Come along to IMPACT to answer all these questions and more…

In the mean time….

2 Corinthians 5:14-15 & 21

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
